Nucci Balfone was born in Palermo, Sicily in 1875. In 1906 he met his future wife, Maria, at the local market shopping for goods. The two married in 1907 and started raising a family together, with their first daughter Angelina born in 1908, their twin sons Roberto and Angelo in 1909, and their youngest daughter Sofia in 1912.
