A Nectite is a special kind of undead person brought back to life.

Backstory

Cambiare Rock has something inside that was put there centuries ago and needs protecting from being accessed. A race of people were assigned to guard the mountain after it’s initial creation but over the centuries, the race has slowly died out. Due to their dwindling numbers, they’ve pulled from the closest community a recently dead person to help protect the contents.

A “Nectite” has no memory of his/her previous life, allowing them to be completely detached from the world of the living. Their life force comes from the mountain itself and if they are away from it for too long, they will start to loose energy and be unable to move. If away from the mountain for too long, they will loose enough energy that they will simply die again. This is designed to keep them near the mountain in order to continue to protect it.

Abilities

Their “abilities” or “perks” vary upon person. Common traits are the ability to fight expertly and are all immortal as long as they are within reach of the mountain. Wounds will heal quickly. Body parts however will not return once lost (limbs, eyes, etc). Sunlight drastically cuts the “Nectite’s” energy down, resulting in many of them only coming out at night.

Life Span

The span of time a particular “Nectite” is in service varies upon the person. A new Nectite will be created and allowed to train for a period of 5 years before being confronted by the powers at be. This training time is to learn to be independent from others. After the initial training time, the powers confront the person to inform them of their purpose. Usually it’s an upcoming attack on the rock prophesied by the original members of the race. Once this attack is completed, the Nectite is given an option to either return to death or be brought back to life in order to continue their life until they die of natural causes.

When a “Nectite’s” time is up, they will be confronted by the powers to be and informed of their new decision. Once they decide one way or another, the next Nectite Protector is chosen and the process starts over.

There has been only three exceptions to the rule of one Nectite Protector per mountain. All three exceptions have never been explained. One of these exceptions was Stewart Filcher becoming The Dark Killer in 1929. He was possessed by the powers of the mountain but was somehow able to break free of the mountain’s restrictions due to his previous telepathic abilities.

The mountain in New Prairie is not the only one of it’s kind in the world. There are similar mountains throughout the world, one on each continent including one on the lost continent of Atlantis. Each mountain contains something needing protecting, resulting in a Nectite Protector being created at each place. The mountains all look identical, containing an underground entrance at the base of the mountain that allows access into the center. The entranceways to these tombs are usually hidden or caved in to hinder the entrance of unwanted people.
