New Prairie High is one of the two high schools in New Prairie and the oldest.

History

The original New Prairie High School was founded in 1927, located two blocks west of the courthouse. This building functioned without issue for almost 2 decades until it was decided the growing population of the city required a larger school.

In 1945 a new high school, big enough to house 3,000 people, was constructed and finished in 1947. The original building was closed and left vacant for the next 15 years until it reopened in 1960 as a homeless shelter and eventually a community center.

The school remained the only High School in New Prairie until 1983 when due to a growth spurt in the town’s population another school was built out past I-41.
