Ashley Sheppard was an architect and romantic love interest of Garrett Moore.
Early Days
Was diagnosed with a fatal disease at the age of 4 but kept the disease private.
In 1994, Ashley met Garrett Moore during Physics Day at Great America in Chicago. Though Garrett was from a totally different city, the two continue to bump into one another all day. During their conversations, she found that Garrett would be attending Stevens Point for college, the same place she was going to. Ashley writes down her name and tells him to find her when he gets there.
College Years
That fall, Ashely ran into Garrett who has almost forgotten about her since their last meeting. Soon the two become good friends and date on again/off again during their Junior year. Nearing their senior year, Garrett and Ashley discuss their future, which ultimately led to them breaking up. During this time Ashley was offered a job in New York City, which she ultimately decided to not take. In 1998, Ashley graduated from Stevens Point and for the next year had very little to no contact with Garrett.
Career
In late 1999, Ashley was referred by a business partner to Hicks & Abbott Architectural Firm in New Prairie, which she takes and move to. Fresh to the town, she goes to JUMPERS where she runs into GARRETT again. After a night long of talking, the two start seriously dating. 8 months later, they move in together in GARRETT’s apartment downtown. In early December of 2001, Ashley goes to her monthly checkup, where the doctor reveals to her that her disease has escalated and she only has 6 months to live. She keeps the news from GARRETT. A few days before Christmas, she finds out accidentally through a friend that GARRETT has bought a ring and plans to ask her to marry him on Christmas Day. She and GARRETT have a fun night of being together on Christmas Eve. Ashley wakes early Christmas morning, writes a note, takes a few of her things and leaves GARRETT for good. In the note she refrains from saying she’s dying, rather that the decision will be a benefit for both of them. In May of 2002, she writes a short lament that will be given to her friends and family at her funeral. As the month goes along, she becomes weaker and weaker and eventually dies on May 31st. At the funeral, her friends and family gather to morn. A heartbroken and depressed GARRETT was spotted in the back. Ashley was buried in OAK PARK CEMETARY near a large mausoleum.
