Talk:FLAK 2: The Hollow (novella)
Opening Scene (Updated 6/26)
Updated Script beats for FLAK 2 - Opening Sequence:
- The Pick-Up: A 20-something guy is driving down the lonely road outside of town, checking his watch. The backseat/trunk is rattling with cases of cheap beer and liquor. He's talking to himself, complaining that some kids over at the new subdivision only gave him $30 to do a bootleg run and he's running late.
- The Interception: Out of the dark cornfield edge, a figure steps directly into the beams of his headlights. He slams on the brakes, cursing. He yells out the window. The figure asks for a ride. Seeing a creepy or dazed-looking person, his instinct is to say no, but when the figure mentions they are freezing and just trying to get down the road, he reluctantly lets them slide into the passenger seat.
- The Conversation: He tries to make small talk, bringing up the party to brag about why he's out so late: "I gotta deliver this stuff over to that new development, The Hollow. Main drag's blocked up, so I had to take the back roads. Lucky for you." He notices the passenger is completely silent, clutching a bag or keeping their hand hidden. To break the tension, he chuckles and says, "You shouldn't be out here alone anyway. Haven't you heard the news? Everyone's losing their minds about that 'Dark Killer' urban legend coming back."
- The Kill & The Slip: The passenger scoffs or calmly says, "He's real." The driver laughs it off: "Bullshit. Anyone who's seen him is crazy." In a flash, the passenger drives the backup machete straight into his throat. As the driver slumps over, choking on blood, his foot hits the accelerator. Before the vehicle impacts the trees or slides deep into a ravine/wooded ditch, the Dark Killer dissolves and slips out of the moving car as a shifting shadow.
- The Reveal: The car crashes into the foliage out of sight. A thick silence returns to the night. The camera tracks back out of the woods, following a creeping shadow that glides across the pavement. The shadow pools and rises, solidifying into a physical silhouette.
The camera tilts up to show the killer standing directly beneath a pristine, glowing modern signpost: Welcome to The Hollow Subdivision. Randombell (talk) 16:15, 30 June 2026 (EDT)
Ending Scene (Updated 6/26)
1. Why Amanda left for the woods
Looking at your FLAK 2 Outline, Karen and a character named Sarah (not Sarah Cole, just another teen at this party named Sarah) run back inside and find the dead bodies. They realize they have to leave, so they split up: Karen goes into the dark tree line to find Amanda, while Sarah goes to look for Lindsay and Josh.
- The Reason: Amanda likely stepped away from the loud music and party chaos earlier in the night to clear her head, get firewood, or simply use the bathroom away from the house—leaving her completely isolated in the dark.
2. The Climax: The Trap and The Overheard Name
As Karen searches the dark tree line, she finds Amanda. But right as they try to head back, the Dark Killer intercepts them. He brutally slaughters Karen (using her chopsticks).
- The Fight and the Injury: Amanda struggles, panics, and tries to fight him off. In the chaotic struggle, Amanda grabs an object (maybe an iron marshmallow skewer or a piece of sharp wood from the fire) and manages to gash or injure the Dark Killer's shadow physical form.
- The Possession out of Necessity: Because he was already physically weakened from his battle with Sarah Cole two weeks prior, this fresh wound severely drains his remaining independent supernatural energy. Realizing his shadow physical form is collapsing, his survival reflex kicks in: he immediately and violently forces his way into Amanda, possessing her to stabilize himself.
3. The "Sarah" Trigger
Right as the possession solidifies, Amanda (now puppeted by the DK) walks back out of the tree line toward the fire pit, clutching the weapon. She finds the final teen survivor of the subdivision massacre standing there.
- The final teen yells out in sheer relief: "Sarah! Oh my god, Sarah, everyone is dead!" (Addressing the other teen at the party).
- Hearing the name "Sarah" completely short-circuits the Dark Killer's mind. Traumatized and enraged by Sarah Cole thwarting him at the farm, he assumes this partygoer is the same girl or that his ultimate target has resurfaced.
- Controlling Amanda's body, he executes the last teen survivor right then and there.
4. Why He Doesn't Leave: Trapped by the Law
Right as Amanda/DK stands over the final bloody body, the night is pierced by flashing red and blue lights. Sirens wail as multiple New Prairie police cruisers roar up the subdivision driveway—summoned by neighbors who heard the initial screaming.
- Because of the fresh injury Amanda inflicted on his shadow form right before the possession, the Dark Killer is too weak to dissolve back into the shadows and depossess her. He is physically locked inside her skull until his essence heals.
- The police storm the yard with guns drawn. They find a dazed, blood-splattered Amanda standing alone in the middle of a horrific mass murder scene, holding a weapon.
- Amanda is arrested on the spot as a psychotic, lone-wolf mass murderer.
Why this is a Massive Win for the Trilogy Continuity:
- The Ultimate Irony: The police railroad Amanda for the subdivision massacre just like they railroaded Sarah Cole for the farm massacre. The New Prairie PD gets to wrap up the case cleanly by claiming "another crazy teenage girl snapped."
- The Asylum Setup (FLAK 3): Because Amanda claims a "man in black inside her head" made her do it, the state declares her criminally insane and ships her straight to the Rhenderelli Clinic.
- The Trap is Set: This explains exactly why Amanda ends up in the same facility as Sarah Cole, why the Dark Killer is hunting paper records for a "Sarah," and why his powers are initially manifesting slowly through the facility's flickering lights—he's still recovering inside Amanda's body when FLAK 3 begins!
