Bio
Early Days
Anthony was a first-generation Italian, having been born in Queens only a few months after his parents arrived in America. Being raised with the mentality of hard work is what you do, he helped his father slowly build a grocery store by selling produce from a cart on the street. As the years went by, they were able to upgrade their store to three large permanent shelves on the sidewalk of a popular neighborhood and eventually bought the storefront located beneath their family's apartment.
Anthony's father died in World War II after being enlisted, leaving Anthony to run the family store himself. One day, a beautiful young woman named Francesca walked into the store. Anthony immediately fell in love with her and asked her on a date. A few months later, the two married and she moved in with him, helping with the house and chores around the store.
In 1960, Anthony and Francesca welcomed their only son, Anthony Zuitco, Jr.
Run-ins with Sporteino
The neighborhood around Anthony's family store began to change in the 60s, as many other businesses and apartment buildings were bought by a young gangster named Vincenzo Sporteino. Anthony did what he could to hold his ground and keep the store to himself, having been offered deals from Sporteino's men multiple times to purchase his business.
In 1969, Sporteino personally visited Anthony and asked him to sell his business to him in exchange for his family living rent-free in the apartment upstairs. Anthony turned him down, which only angered Sporteino and caused him to storm out, stating he would own the store one way or another.
One week later, while Anthony and his wife were out front of their store talking to customers, a gunman by the name of James Anderton, who was hired by Sporteino, opened fire on the two, emptying an entire clip at them. Anderton fled while Anthony Jr collapsed beside his dying parents, watching them take their last breaths.
