By the end of the tour, the band had completed nearly 26 new songs, all of which they decided to record in the studio. While only 11 original tracks made the final cut, the remaining songs are still in the band's vault and would eventually be released in 2034 as a second disc for the album's 20th-anniversary deluxe edition.

"The Rose" was the last song recorded for the new album, and despite Victor Morgan not performing on it, he was in the control booth listening as the band played it live in a single take. There are rumors that the subtle crying in the background after the song ends is actually Morgan, though nothing has come out to prove that.
