The Troll Blog was a weekly web series starring The Troll who answers questions from viewers about the upcoming release of T.C. De Witt's The Princess Knight.

History

During the production of T.C. De Witt's The Princess Knight, Jeff Bell had been cast as the voice of The Troll, ultimately becoming the puppeteer of the character and a dozen others as well. While on set, T.C. De Witt pitched the idea of creating a spin-off show that would help drive additional interest in the production, along with being a fun excuse to do more with the Troll character. Each week, Jeff Bell wrote, filmed, and edited a new episode almost entirely by himself with the occasional voice appearance of actors also in the full length movie.

Format

The show's concept started as a weekly Q&A with the Troll answering fan questions with the help of his off-screen, silent producer Stanley. As time went by, the show started adding additional features, such as music numbers, movie parodies, and on-set appearances during the making of the film. It was during the later half of the first season, that a "storyline" for the show was slowly worked into the weekly series, leading to a cliffhanger season 1 finale dealing with time travel. The show would continue the more storyline focused adventures of the Troll and slowly phase out the weekly Q&A portion.

Plot

The Troll from "T.C. De Witt's The Princess Knight" gives you a weekly look behind the scenes of the making of the movie, answering emails, talking to the fans, and sharing stories of his life.

Characters and cast

  • The Troll (real name Marty Gras) is a troll and the lead character on the show, having grown up wanting to be an actor in Hollywood. For a short time, he had a roommate who was in a band that ultimately moved out shortly before the start of the show.
  • Stanley (real name and appearance, unknown) is the producer of the weekly show. He's never seen or heard speaking, though Troll constantly interacts with him. For a while it was hinted at that Stanely was a figment of The Troll's imagination, however, the season 1 finale introduced the concept that Stanley was real after all, just very quiet. He's still never been seen.
  • Sentient Title Cards are the on-screen text that Troll often interacts with. While being nothing more than white text on a black background, it has attitudes and smarts that can often outwit the Troll's comebacks. Briefly, during a "dream" the Troll was having, the title cards evolved into having a voice and being able to control the world slowly taking over all electronics. Troll awoke to find the Title Cards back to their original self, however, it was hinted that they might be more in control than we think.
  • The Therapist
  • Vesper
  • Jeff is the Troll's current roommate, having met him during the original Troll Christmas special.
